Back around 1990, I met industry icon Bob Bradshaw who was known for building rack switching systems for the who’s who of guitar players under the name Custom Audio Electronics. Bob also had a company called Custom Audio Amplifiers that built (in my opinion) the best sounding guitar preamp and amp head to date. Bob became a client and I learned that Bob got his friend and fellow amp guru, John Suhr, to design those amps. I later learned John Suhr was not only the Suhr in “Pensa-Suhr”, but a master luthier at the Fender Custom Guitar Shop. Basically, John was a master at both designing amps and building guitars. John became a client, left Fender and later started his own custom guitar company, Suhr Guitars. This was my first of two Suhr guitars I had custom built. Aside from its striking beauty of a sand-gold finish and gold hardware, it has my favorite S-S-H pickup configuration of hand-wound pickups by John and a Floyd Rose Tremolo. These guitars are a must for the serious guitar player, but be prepared to wait as the back-order list is lengthy. Then again, the old adage of anything valuable in life is worth waiting for totally fits here.
